Hawthorne was founded in 1905 and was named after the New England author, Nathaniel Hawthorne. The town covers approximately 6 square miles and is home to a population of just over 84,000 residents. The City of Hawthorne is famously known as the birth town of The Beach Boys. As of recent years the city has grown as a center for the space industry and hosts numerous space related private companies, industries and startups. SpaceX is the largest employer with over 6,000 employees. Hawthorne is also conveniently located near El Camino College which has an enrollment of over 20,000 students.
